Acclaimed as one of today’s leading contemporary Mexican ensembles, the Villalobos Brothers will open the 2023-2024 Lakewood Cultural Center Presents series at the Lakewood Cultural Center on Saturday, Oct. 14 during the National Hispanic Heritage Month.

The Villalobos Brothers share a powerful message of love, brotherhood and social justice with brilliance and virtuosity. The group’s original compositions and arrangements masterfully fuse and celebrate the richness of Mexican folk music with the intricate harmonies of jazz and classical music for “a crazy ball of sound!” (Dan Zanes, USA Today).

Luis Villalobos references the group’s departure from traditional classical music as having never been satisfied with simply interpreting other artists' work. "Even if it's wonderful, wonderful music that we were learning from a very early age, we all have this desire to find our voices and to say something that is unique, and that is us," he says.

The ensemble has collaborated with legendary musicians including Grammy winners Bruce Springsteen, Dolly Parton, Antonio Sánchez, Regina Carter, Eduardo Magallanes, Dan Zanes, Sierra Hull and Ana Tijoux. They have performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Latin Grammy Awards, Davies Symphony Hall, and the Montreal Jazz Festival and have delighted audiences throughout Latin America, India, Russia, Canada and in more than 30 states across the United States.

Tickets for LCC Presents Villalobos Brothers start at $25 and are on sale now at 303-987-7845, Lakewood.org/LCCPresents or the Lakewood Cultural Center Box Office, 470 S. Allison Parkway (Wadsworth and West Alameda Avenue).

Hailed as “one of 10 Colorado arts organizations that get it right” by the Denver Post, Lakewood Cultural Center (LCC) is known throughout the state for its exceptional programming. The 2023-2024 LCC Presents season offers vibrant, multicultural programs from world-class artists in dance, theater, jazz, classical and world music just 15 minutes from downtown Denver.
