The French Vitus 979 is the model that made bonded aluminum frames popular. Lightweight anodized aluminum tubes are bonded to aluminum lugs, creating a visually striking and very light bike. These can be built in the 17-18 pound range fairly easily. The first 979 was made in 1979, and they ran until the early 1990's.

Ultra-lightweight and fast. For sale by original owner and rider. This bike was built for a rider (me) at 5'2", 115-120 lbs, 29" inseam. Never crashed, well cared-for and stored. Vintage Vitus 979 frameset built of aluminum tubes with their classic bonded aluminum lugs, in good condition as seen in photographs. 52cm seat tube with a 54cm top tube. 700c wheel size road bike made to accept recessed Allen brakes on the fork & nutted brakes on the frame. Mounts on downtube for downtube shifters or cable stops. Features internal rear brake cable routing, with a 126mm rear end spacing, 1" threaded steerer tube, and English BB threading. Fits a 25.0 post. Red main tubes. Made in France.
